design activities in Dessau

What I really like about the Dessau is that there is nothing much to do around. and for one to have a good time, they've gotta get creative with their activities. Like getting lost with a bike to follow local graffiti artists and their tags, or just going to the skate park and enjoying the outdoor activity with your friends.

Since we have to squeeze ourselves to get creative, i feel there is a lot of potential and chance for a person to work on their interests and curiosities and improve their craftsmanship. as the distractions are not much, and there are plenty of design students around who are up for doing interesting stuff.

How I came to know about this one

I saw the Instagram post on Druckbar's page about the 1-week Design Spate pop-up exhibition that had a free 3-day Linol print workshop + open screen printing. I was starting to explore what was happening around Dessau. ever since my last week's bike ride around Sud that got me hungry for more activities to do around.

Druckbar

one cool place I came across was the Druckbar run by Leo & Mila where they curates Riso printing workshops and operates the space as a coworking space for Designers. I went there on my first night in Dessau for the City Jam event where I met a lot of musicians both from Dessau and from my university as well. That night alone changed my whole study experience in Dessau because of the connections I made on that day.

I am really into workshops and crafts, and i get very excited when i see people doing their own thing. it gets me motivated to keep going and learn about their stories and motives that lead them to do what they are doing.

I didn't know what was lino cut print before I attended this workshop, but it turned out to be potentially a new obsession that I might indulge in soon. but, even though I didn't know much about it, I saw that the Druckbar people were making an open silk screen + Kleidertausch (clothes exchange).

I always wanted to try screen printing, and I thought it was a great chance to try it out!

Lino Cut Workshop

one of the workshops that was held during this event was the lino cut print workshop held by Leo

on the first day, we got an overview of the 3-day workshop:

  • Day1: Sketching

  • Day2: Carving

  • Day3: Printing

Day 1
Day 2
Day 3

I was a little slow with my progress during the workshop, but i got the chance to go the Druckbar later to finish up and make my prints

I went with sueños because I had a funny dream on the first day of the workshop, & I made it in Spanish to lure Leo's attention ^_^
